Интензивни, но "айляк" две седмици 

Кристина Копп дойде за две седмици в Пловдив като международна доброволка. Включи се в над 10 проекта и помогна за създаването на колелото на шарадите и короната за доброволец на месеца. Кристина учи български и преведе статията си сама, без редакция от други хора.

Казвам се Кристина Копп. Родена съм в Унгария, на 21 години съм, и дипломирах този юни от сценография. Миналата година учих в София, там чух от програмите на Пловдив, Европейската столицата на култура, и реших да се върна в този жив град.

Първо, интересувах се само от програмите на проектът "Opera Open" защото мислех че това е най-близкото до професията ми. За съжаление, оперният екип не ми трябва, като доброволка, ето защо точно преди моето пристигане спонтанно кандидатствах за други неща. Много се радвам че реших така - човек предполага, Бог разполага.

Работа с деца изглежда подобно на факта, че обичам театъра: да бъде в креативна, социална атмосфера където имам чувството, че правим нещо за по-голяма кауза. Участвах един 3-дневен семинар на градски дизайн където ние проектирахме детска площадка за Столипиново. Вземих участие в един програм, което се казва “Мобилно училище”. Отидохме на същото място, Столипиново, и рисувахме, боядисвахме и правихме скулптури заедно. Децата бяха много благодарни - не е много вероятно децата да срещнат учител там… Заедно с уоркшопи на Младежния хълм, където изграждаме външни мебели, мога да кажа че много ми хареса да работя с тях. Внасяне на изкуството и архитектурата в живота на децата по игрив, но образователен начин – сега мога да си представя да го направя в бъдеще.

Работното ми време беше забавно, но имах и свободно време, когато просто практикувах да бъда “айляк” в парка или в басейна, ходих на лятното кино и на концерти, или запознах с нови хора: други доброволци от фондацията или пътници от цял свят с които аз живях заедно в

хостела. Пловдив също е чудесна отправна точка за еднодневна екскурзия – Била съм в крепостта на Асен и в Родопите на село Буково където имаше един фолклорен фестивал “Угар фестивал”.

Intense but aylak two weeks

Krisztina Kopp came to Plovdiv for two weeks as an international volunteer. She has been involved in over 10 projects and helped create the charade wheel and the volunteer crown of the month. Krisztina studied Bulgarian and translated her article on her own without being edited by other people.

My name is Krisztina Kopp. I am a 21-year-old Hungarian freshly graduated scenographer who fell in love with Bulgaria in 2018 during an Erasmus semester in Sofia. That was also the time when I
have heard about the cultural programs in Plovdiv and I started to have fantasies about coming back to this vibrant city in the future.

Planning my stay, I was concentrating only on the July events of Open Opera Festival. I was very keen on helping out backstage with the costumes and building the set, I thought it would fit my professional background the most. Ironically, it turned out the Opera crew did not need an extra person. So just before my arrival, I dug in deeper in all the programs, and spontaneously (sometimes randomly) applied to various kind of things, not only backstage positions. I am so glad I did - man proposes, God disposes, I guess.

I like working with a crew in theatre because it is a creative, social environment and I love when we are doing something for a “greater cause”, or simply when there is a meaningful message behind the daily acts I call “work”. So finding myself on a 3-day urban design workshop, thinking about how could we improve kids’ environment in a quite poor neighborhood of Stolipinovo, or going to the same district with the Mobile School program to have arts&crafts workshops there, where children are not very likely to meet a teacher, it was an uplifting experience – a bit similar why I like theatre.

I spent some more time with kids on Youth Hill, Plovdiv, where with our support they build their own playground and garden furniture to the park from wooden materials. I really enjoyed all the activities with the little ones. After the two-week-period, thanks to the volunteer program, I feel like I extended my future possibilities - bringing art and architecture to children’s lives in a playful but educational way.

Besides the fact that I enjoyed my working hours a lot, I had real free time, too, of course. Either I spent it in aylak mode (it’s a specifically Plovdivian expression, something like “super chill”) somewhere reading in a park or by a swimming pool, or I chose to participate some events of the

cultural capital, e.g. concerts or outdoor cinema. I lived in a hostel in the most lively district of Plovdiv – Kapana. If I want to sound very serious, I could say that knowing the city (more or less) I did voluntary tour guide work to my nice roommates, who visited only for 1-2 days in the city. Actually, I just had a constant party environment around me for two weeks, with me being the “local” who knows all the PIN codes of the hostel by heart.

When you feel like you have walked through the whole city twice, Plovdiv is also a great starting point for a day trip. I had the chance to visit Asen’s fortress (around 20 km away, easily approachable by train or bus) and hike a bit in the surrounding nature. With a volunteer friend, we checked out a traditional folk festival named UGAR in the Rhodope mountains, near village Bukovo. This trip was a bit more adventurous with the hitchhiking, carrying a tent, and having to arrive back on time for an event…

Mentioning the volunteer colleagues, here I would like to say thank you for the welcoming and fun environment I had as an international volunteer with them! Maybe see you again later during the year!
